Nathalie Gidrón (Barbarela Studio), participates in Gender Tech Festival with a work which reflects on landscape from the concept of Contemporary Ruin.

The exhibition El jardín del sr. Ito by Nathalie Gidrón, presented in this first edition of Gender TechFestival (Enclave/Vermell space), is a critical reflection, not just around the economic crisis, but to the current way of life system in which the speed of events leads to unexplainable situations and, in many times, unacceptable.

This first exhibition is part of the Contemporary Ruins investigation which is being developed by Barbarela Studio.

El jardín del sr. Ito
Toyo Ito, japanese architect of recognized international career, projected in 2000 the Relaxation Park in the pink lake of Torrevieja, place for the enjoyment of mud baths. In 2003 the works began on the first of three buildings: a shell constructed of wood frame, with helical section and covered with copper sheets. The result is a floating object over a concrete basement, but as it was projected, it should become in giant vegetated dunes.

Abandonment during 5 years of construction that has led to occupating, damaging and stealing: the copper roof is gone, the windows are broken, the wood smoke and burnt up, and has become a no-man’s land of marginal and drug addicts. From backlit photographs of the place, Nathalie Gidron, rebuilds the contemporary ruin which the current building is with a lot of images sometimes bucolic, sometimes sarcastic, which show both different usability of the site as critical and ironic with the different actors responsible for environmental disasters of our punished coast.
